The Alexandre Grendene Square, located in the heart of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia hospital complex in Porto Alegre, arises from the desire to redefine the emptiness between buildings, transforming the space into a place of welcome and respite. Grounded in the principles of biophilia, the project incorporates dense vegetation, organic pathways, and spaces for staying as therapeutic devices. The square proposes a garden with multiple layers of vegetation that create microenvironments of thermal, visual, and emotional comfort, promoting meaningful pauses amidst the hospital routine and accommodating different forms of presence. The visual and sensory contact with the green acts as an emotional mediator, capable of reducing stress, regulating the internal rhythm, and favoring healing.

Classic studies, such as Roger Ulrich's, demonstrate that patients with a view of nature have faster recovery rates, highlighting the restorative power of green spaces. This same logic extends to health professionals: offering contact with nature is also caring for those who care. Thus, by integrating vegetation, pathways, and permanence, the project reconstructs the hospital experience from the sensory perspective - where the landscape is not an ornament, but the protagonist of care.
